See that "Get Featured" tab at the top of the page? Well, Eryka from the blog ABCDE was kind enough to send over some pictures and answer a few questions about her beautiful wedding and how she saved money, and I am so excited to have her as my first Wedding of the Week feature here on B&B. Be ready to drool over some seriously gorgeous wedding pictures!
Eryka and Dan were married on 3.12.11 in the Sacramento LDS Temple.
Where was your reception held?
Our California reception was at the Paradise Valley Country Club in Fairfield, CA and our Utah reception was at the Grand Ballroom in Bountiful, UT. Both were so different but totally fit the look of our wedding. In California, we were blessed with gorgeous weather during the day and then it got chilly, and in Utah we were blessed with freezing cold and snow. Good thing it was indoors!
What were the things you spent the most money on for your wedding?
My dress, the reception site, and food... Food was the most because had to use the reception sites to cater.
How were you able to cut costs during your wedding planning?
The ceremony was a traditional LDS wedding so we didn't have to pay for the ceremony. We also used babies breath for all the center pieces {in California}, and all the bouquets were hand made by my mother and I using fabric. Our Photographer (Valory Jean Photography) was family member who happens to be a professional so that helped a lot with cost. In Utah, my mother-in-law was in charge of it all!
Did you end up over or under budget for your wedding?
Under!
What is your best advice for those planning a wedding?
My #1 advice to new brides for saving money is DIY anything you can. We DIY'ed a lot and saved a lot. I'm pretty sure my parents check books thanked me when I decided to make a lot of the decor and all the bouquets!

What a fun blog post idea! We saved a lot on our wedding by cutting down on things like favors and a reception hall and just spending on things that were important to us (food, photography, etc.). I know some people who were able to save even more than we did, but I still felt like ours was pretty frugal!
